Umwa
I hold minority views on many issues but I think that such views are
actually correct, even though the over-arching Capitalist Establishment
(I would call it a super-state that pretty much encompasses most of the
world at this point) would like me to privilege other views. I do
disagree with certain points made on the site; most of my disagreements
center around demanding personal responsibility in a world where the
First Estate makes such a great attempt to usurp that ability from the
common people. I agree with the arguments presented on this site against
commonly held gender biases and stereotyping but I don't agree that
Feminism is in its most vital form when it embraces conservative,
capitalist, masculine ideals. I often feel that people who simply wish
to "be equal" are in some ways wishing to ignore class and be able to
join the ranks of the oppressors at a later date. Feminists and
Socialists kept closer ties at the beginning of the 20th century and
leaders would argue that labor would support suffrage if suffrage would
support labor. It makes me angry that 90 or so years later women have
the vote yet unions are dying and the gap between the rich and poor
continues to widen. I'm a Heartless Bitch because I don't accept this. I
won't accept elitism (even intellectual) because it breeds prejudice.
But I guess the real question is based on what I actually do about these
issues, in order to affect change, etc. The answer would probably be
that I don't really do a great deal. It seems as though most individuals
are lost in this society and I simply don't agree with this society on
all levels so I choose to abstain from it. I don't vote anymore, I don't
get involved anymore (I used to) because it's obvious that this
civilization is inherently selfish and won't do what it needs to save
itself. The IPCC forecasts that, realistically, in 46 years the average
global temperature will rise 14-18 degrees. This has wide-ranging
effects on everyone and people are so selfish that they think nothing of
this and obviously nothing can be done about. The degradation of the
ozone layer is already proving to be damaging in Australia and Chile and
this is just the tip of everything! I can't even comprehend it and
people still drive around in huge SUVs. You can't always be for personal
choice; these people should be thrown in jail. I can't hate the masses
though because the First Estate, the government, and the media are the
ones that are really pushing this selfishness. In short, I'm a Heartless
Bitch because I choose to abstain from that kind of life and *not* get a
job at some coal company where I would be furthering the destruction of
the planet. I feel that this is the true gauge of personal
responsibility, going without because the economic system you were born
into is against your values.
