Catherine
I have no tolerance for adults who act like children to get attention or
sympathy. No wait, just adults who act like bratty kids full stop; it
seems to be a behaviour trait with some people. I am still in education
so I can't totally escape the people who annoy me, but trust me, I would
be only too happy to never have to witness another mid-corridor hissy
fit. People who sulk and pout and generally avoid issues irritate me. I
like to get to the point and I believe being tactful can just be a
codeword for dishonest and manipulative.
So far this only makes me heartless. If heartless is a good way to
explain the distinct lack of emotion I feel when someone gives me the
oh-I'm-so-cute-please-let-me-copy-your-essay look. Or whatever favour
they want because they're just too damn lazy to do it themselves. Let's
not forget these are the people who do their best not to look "too
smart" or "too geeky" during class for fear it might taint their cute,
fluffy little-girl image. But when their ass is on the line they want to
copy something I wrote. To add insult to injury I have to listen to a
nauseatingly coy little speech about how they're my bestest friend etc.
At least since I'm female I don't usually have to endure blatant sexual
manipulation and eyelash fluttering.
The bitch part comes in when I refuse them the right to plagiarise my
work. Not just refuse but bluntly state the reason why and show my
disgust at being used as a resource. It's insulting that certain people
think I'm stupid enough to get taken in by the cute act. I appreciate
honesty. Honesty is being grown-up enough to take your thumb out of your
mouth and tell me you went out on a bender last night and forgot your
biology essay. Then I might be more inclined to help.
