As much as I loved my boyfriend, I couldn't bring myself to marry him. He wanted me to become a CATHOLIC as a condition for marriage. WHAT! My atheism was never a secret. I made it very clear from the first date. I told him that I am fine with whatever he believes, that's his business. A year later, when he finally revealed his secret conversion plan, I flatly refused. He cried that he did not understand why I was clinging to my "non belief" when I could just do this "little thing" for him. (Yeah, this "little thing" like lying to my family and friends and future children that I believe in that ridiculous stuff.) He sent flowers in my office and played the martyr...telling people that I broke up with him because I was just being stubborn. The women in my office said that I should "fake it." "Why give up such a great man who loves you so much." Loves me? That's a laugh. He can kiss my non-God-fearing hedonistic ass!
