Sharon
I work to empower women in both my professional and personal life.
I am a midwife who believes strongly in the right of women to take
control of their own bodies and their fertility. This is at times
interesting in a state of Australia where the "Save The Vagina Society"
(Royal Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology) is king and caesarean
section is considered "safer and better than vaginal birth." I could
rant and rave about the pros and cons of this but I am sure you have
heard it all before. To sum it up, the right to choose is the thing that
people like me are on about.
Being called a bitch by the paid up members of the STVS is the ultimate
compliment, it means that I am acting on behalf of my clients and am
refusing to bow down to their crap. It also means that they have run out
of rational argument and believe that they are insulting me.
I have two daughters who I am bringing up to be damned proud to be
female. This is the ultimate goal for my husband and me. It seems we are
succeeding; both girls are happy to express themselves and at 16 and 17
are young women that do not need boyfriends to make them complete. The
youngest is state champion for debating and is considering a career in
law. The oldest is the youngest girl ever to win a national award for
achievement in IT, she is heading toward a career in obstetrics.
I am a proud woman, mother, wife and midwife. I am proud to work with
and for women. I have been called a "ball-breaking bitch" and other
variations on that theme on a regular basis, and that is fine by me. I
will continue in the work I believe in. If that makes me a bitch than I
am happy with that label.
