I think that I am a Heartless Bitch because I am no longer an enabler.
Before this year I was the classic enabler. I was that friend that you
called at 3 am when your guy wasn't home from the bar or the one that
you called when he put you down for the millionth time. I was quick to
run to the rescue. I now realize that behavior not only made me a
doormat, but it also severely disrupted my sleep cycle. Within the past
year I have been quick to let these friends know that you are only
treated the way that you let people treat you. I also let them know that
if they called me at 3 am to whine about the same bullshit again that I
would stomp a new hole in their ass! Some people did not respond and ended
the "friendship"; I just saw this as asserting myself and weeding out
the weak.
