Darken
Because I stand up for myself. Because I believe that life is too short
to be lived according to someone else's standards. Because I like myself
and I am proud of what I am , WITHOUT having to comply to any media
established archetypes.
I am from Romania. That little country in Eastern Europe you have seen a
lot of gloomy documentaries from in the 90's. I live in England
nowadays, and I am sick and tired of hearing people bashing my country
without knowing what is going on over there. Or why, for that matter.
I work in IT. I am a freelancer web designer/ developer/ system
engineer. I heard a lot of people saying- "oh, isn't that nice! That
must be very difficult for you working in a male dominated environment!"
Well, sorry, FUCK YOU! First of all, it is not male dominated. There are
a lot of women working in IT and we do it well, so why this prejudice
that women are not intelligent enough to work in technical positions?
I do not want people to like me, and I have been accused of "not being nice" and "not trying to fit in."
Well, big deal! "Being nice" in these people's minds means:
- "Do not speak loud- it is unladylike."
- "Women should be seen not heard."
- "Women are naturally weaker than men and constantly need men's help."
- "It is unladylke to wear biker boots and to ride a bike."
- "Only tarts wear leather."
- "A lady is not competitive."
- "A woman should not rant and be happy taking care of her man."
and the list goes, on, and on, and on.... and I do not care. I have no intention of being a lady.
I am who I am, and proud of it.
And for those who envy me... What can I say? I've got a good job and a good husband.
I got my job by studying, fending for myself during the University while the "cool people" were out partying.
The fact that I have a husband does not mean that I do all the housework. A good marriage is based on self-respect.
A man who expects me to do all the housework is in for a really BIG surprise.
