I think that the most important thing that anyone can do for themselves
is to take ownership of their life. It is so necessary to honestly
credit yourself for your accomplishments, and to honestly take the
responsibility for your mistakes. If you don't, if you'd rather fall
back on excuses, you are only hurting yourself in the long run, because
not only do you not work to fix the problem that you have created for
yourself, but you learn nothing from the experience. And so I think that
it is essential that you grab the reins of your own life, go after your
own happiness, and collect your mistakes along the way. This is not
always an easy thing to do, and I do not always practice what I preach.
It's sometimes tempting to go with the path of least resistance, and to
make your excuses as you go. But I am learning. I'm getting there.
Recently, a friend of my family died quite young and quite unexpectedly.
And it's a cliché maybe, but it really gave me a kick in the ass to
re-evaluate my life, and to figure out what is important. What I have
figured out thus far is that I am no good at being a cynic. If this
disqualifies me from Heartless Bitches International, then so be it, but
I don't want in under false pretenses. Because what I see is that my
rampant cynicism didn't make me any happier. It just made me angry. I
still see a lot that makes me angry, but I am trying to learn to see the
things with a bit more compassion and understanding. Learning patience.
Which is not to say that idiocy is excused out of hand, but maybe
sometimes I am the one that is being the idiot, so you know, there's
always that.
Anyway, I think that I have a lot to offer to Heartless Bitches
International because I am intelligent, witty, and I will (attempt to)
kick your asses when I think that you need it, and will appreciate it
when you do the same for me.
