You have to be a Heartless Bitch to succeed in academia. I am a third year Ph.D. student who has been underestimated because of my race and gender. I recently passed my comprehensive (qualifying) exams in Political Science, and am showing the department that I belong here and not to expect the Ivory Tower to stay ivory that much longer! I affectionately refer to myself as ABD, not for All But Dissertation, but for Angry Black Diva. I am extremely intelligent, have a voice, and as unpleasant as it may be for certain "good old boys" to fathom, it cannot be silenced. I have liberated myself and am taking no prisoners!

On the personal side, I do not suffer fools gladly. If you're letting your man dump on you, I ask, "why is he still your man?" If you're dumping on a good man, I'll let you know you're wrong for THAT, as well. I am considerate person, but when the truth must be told, I can dish and take with equanimity. I would rather be dateless than deal with unworthy suitors (just wastes my time, which is valuable), and I am comfortable paying and paving my way through life.
