Even though my life isn't exactly where I'd like it to be, I know damn well why it is where it is, and what I need to do about it. Because I've learned that "good intentions" aren't enough; that "life is managed, not cured," as Dr. Phil says; and that life is not only what happens to you, but what you make of it. As I see it, the purpose of being alive is to experience what it means to be present, to appreciate and be appreciated, to love and be loved, to do that we need to be fully awake. That means not only opening the heart, but opening the mind -- and sometimes, opening your mouth. I'm a Heartless Bitch because I often find myself forced to choose between, on the one hand, my own well- considered best judgment (which is not to say that I'm always right), and on the other, the relentlessly unexamined delusions of someone else. Sometimes you just have to say, "No, that's NOT how it is." Sometimes being the best of who you are means not getting along with everyone else, but then, some people are worth getting along with, and some are not. The key is knowing the difference.
