When I was young I was told that girls weren't supposed to be loud, girls weren't supposed to play in the dirt, girls weren't supposed to be pushy, girls weren't supposed to do this that or the other thing. In other words, we shouldn't have fun; we should sit there like little ladies. I realized that then that to be a lady was to be boring, docile, meek and a doormat. Fuck that shit I said, I want to be a broad. To this day I still believe I found the best of both worlds as a kid. I could do everything that boys did I could run, yell, climb trees, start imaginary wars, build tree forts, trail blaze in the woods, shout down the playground bully. The only difference was that I got to do it in pretty dresses; life is good I thought to myself.
I was once called intimidating by a girlfriend of mine. She told me (on great authority apparently, she always had a boyfriend. Grant it, the men she dated were losers and abusers, but it was important to have a man, right?) that I was too aggressive and that I scared men off. I calmly told her that any man I "scare off" is a nancy boy, and why on earth would I want one of those? For crying out loud, I am not waving firearms here, I'm not threatening to maim and destroy people, I have opinions. I have opinions I like to share with other intelligent signs of life; hopefully they will share any opinions they have. What follows is called a discussion.
