"I think, therefore I am"... a Heartless Bitch.*
When I was in college, I was the program director of the school radio station. Students were allowed to learn all the aspects of radio through hands on training. At the end of my junior year, the administration very quietly decided to go NPR- thus getting rid of all student involvement (even though the students' tuition was paying to run the station AND students getting an RTF degree were not going to be able to learn radio any more). So, being the Heartless Bitch that I am, I staged a massive retaliation effort- including sending information on what was REALLY going to the local media blitzkrieg-style. The story was on every major media circuit in Texas for a month. I was interviewed about the overthrow for Dallas and Houston TV stations while wearing a "THEY LIE" shirt. I also sent out tens of thousands of letters to all the alumni with detailed information on the destruction of the school radio station, thus causing a cascade of protest letters from former students and crash in the income for the school- Hundreds of pissed off patrons declined to donate money that year to protest the changeover, causing the lowest donating year in the 150 year history of the school (a loss of over $50 million). I held two concerts during the course of the year with bands such as Starflyer 59 (from MTV) and Flickerstick (VH1's Bands on the Run) to promote awareness and action, but it was all no use. Very quietly at the end of the semester, the school signed all the necessary contracts to change the station to NPR and shut off all the students. The PR man in charge of the whole deal had the date of the "NPR Induction Party" rescheduled to occur on my birthday and stealthily cancelled all my school scholarships (I was an honor student in good standing with a full ride scholarship to this private school.) Luckily, I was able to finish in half a year and only incur $20K in debt, but at the same time, the radio station was lost thus the voice of the students was silenced. But, as they say, it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.* This wasn't exactly a love affair- but it was about passion- which is an interchangeable ideal with love. I think that makes me a Heartless Bitch- or maybe, a bleeding heart bitch- I haven't quite decided that.
