I am 60 years old and should be in the "anything to keep a man" group; however, I have never believed I am less than a man because I don't have a penis. When I realized the best year of my marriage was when my husband was in Vietnam (1965), mainly because I also realized I could take care of myself and my two children on my own, I knew I could no longer stay in the relationship. Even though I had 2 children under 5, and I worked 40 hours a week, I took a programming course (4 hours a night, 4 nights a week for a year) so that I could leave my secretarial job for a computer programming position and end my marriage. I have never looked back. I am not rich because I have chosen to never compromise my value system for comfort. I could have remarried several times, which would have eased my financial difficulties of raising 2 children by myself, but the cost to my integrity was too great. Better to be poor and independent, than rich and under the control of another.
