I attempt to look at myself more mercilessly than I look at others. I really ought to have more insight into myself than into another person. This is the only thing that lends credence to any critique I may have of others. It is both useless and common to level harsh critiques directed everywhere else and not at oneself. I don't do this, it undermines my own worth, intelligence, and wisdom. It makes me a less valuable person to myself and to everyone around me. Were I to live like that then I would be a waste of space and resources and should just get the hell out of the way. I refuse to live that way.

I don't waste a lot of energy on stupid people (or smart people acting stupidly -- read Aristotle -- you are how you act). They have a very limited right to my time and energy and brain space. To get really worked up over someone stupid isn't heartless, it's a misguided waste of energy. I push them aside with as little ceremony as possible, move on, and figure out how to avoid them and their ilk in the future.
