You know how some people say they just want someone to wrap their arms around them and tell them it'll be all right? I'm like that too, except I know that the best person for that job is ME. I'm my own sail, anchor, and steering wheel. There isn't room for anybody else to do it.

The corollary to this is that I simply haven't time to waste fixing anybody else. I'm not a DIY hardware store, and humans are not fixer-uppers. If someone's not a viable friend or lover, it isn't my place to "fix" them; how irresponsible, not to take the dominant role in fixing one's own self! I'll gladly listen, or lend a hand if someone needs it. I just keep things in perspective: I rule me, and they rule themselves. There's no room in their ship-of-soul for a second captain any more than there is in mine.

I have come to see that most of the drama in my life has been caused by allowing others to usurp my own self-sovereignty, or attempting to usurp that of others. It seems like a lot of people consider these behaviors to be not only perfectly normal, but expected. I refuse to take part in that thinking any more.

No, I'll stand on my own two feet, thank you. I'll direct my own life, and I'll gladly let others direct their own lives. People who want to "fix" me, or who seek "fixing," can take their drama elsewhere. I've got no time for it.
