I despise people who are "nice" because it is the "right" thing to do, which more often than not equates to a fear of being disliked for their true thoughts and feelings. I would rather be praised for my kindness and disliked for my truths, than be considered socially acceptable for my silence. I try to be nice and honest at the same time, and the truth is that I fail as often as I succeed (on the nice part, as if that's difficult to guess), but I do try.
I also refuse to stifle my opinions, or behave in the manner society has chosen for my gender/nationality/age simply because it is "normal." I celebrate diversity and stand up for my way of thinking (though please don't read that as my being a militant anything... militancy is almost as bad as apathy, or bigotry).
