I'm only 18 years old but I've learned much about being a Heartless Bitch because I am the daughter of one. My mother did everything from being the best player on her university's men's hockey team to being valedictorian to a successful divorce lawyer supporting the family until my pilot father could get his helicopter business off the ground, of which she owns the helicopters he flies. I admired her strength and took it into my own as a revelation came the day I was 16 and delightfully threw every copy of YM, Seventeen, and Teen People I ever owned into the trash. No longer wanting to be controlled by the mindless autonomy that is the pop culture machine, I took an interest in country music and took up the guitar, Dobro guitar and banjo along with the piano I've studied since I was 6. Today I am regularly the only female playing with a group of guys and find ways to express my healthy bitchiness through my songwriting. I am moving to Nashville from Canada to begin university
there studying music business and have never compromised my focus or drive for high school boyfriends. I do have plenty of male friends though, seeing as I was the only female who graduated from the Honors Dual diploma academics and electronics program of my high school class. It was a lot of fun getting messy with technology and competing in robot games, as well as winning science fairs, but at the same time I was very aware and saddened that I was the only female. To me, being a Heartless Bitch doesn't necessarily mean telling the world to fuck off, though I have told off a few men and women in my time, rather, it means realizing and using the innate qualities of strength, intelligence, creativity, grace, dignity, self-love, courage, independence, and assertiveness that all females possess to further the cause of equality and encourage other women to realize their potential. Above all, though, being a Heartless Bitch should mean setting an example for the younger generations, much
like my mother did for me.
