I truly despise it when people see me as a female first and as a human being second. Sure, I'm happy to BE female, but that's hardly the sum total of who I am. I'm also sick of seeing women coming into the local battered women's shelter where I volunteer after their boyfriend/husband/significant other has beaten the shit out of them, but then they turn around and go back because "they love him and they can change him! Really!" I'm trying my damnedest to be liked or disliked on my own merits, not whatever the hell stereotypes continue to be assigned to those of my gender. I'm also sick of guys who mutter about me being a "dyke" or a "man-hater" because I insist on standing up for my rights as a human being and refuse to just be another mass-marketed, overly-made-up, brainless piece of meat. I don't hate men, fellas. I hate idiots. Does trying to discern the difference make your little brains hurt?
