I work hard. I'm a 19-year-old woman at a top-ten university surrounded by beer-swilling, SUV-gunning frat boys and anorexic, credit-card-abusing princesses. I'm on full tuition academic scholarship, and while my parents pay for room and board, I waitress and send my earnings home because I don't believe in living off the generosity of others. I wear Wal-mart jeans and take public transportation, but none of that shit bothers me because what I'm giving up--temporary material luxury and an extended babyhood--is nothing compared to what I'm getting--an education and a chance to succeed on my own terms.

I read books. That alone seems to separate most Heartless Bitches I know from the TV/fashion mag hordes of simpering child-women that populate the average sorority around here.

I have morals and values that I took the time to create for myself. I wish I could say I always live up to these expectations of myself, but I don't. I think what really makes me a Heartless Bitch is that I *have* them in the first place, that I hold myself to a higher standard than mediocrity.
