Two years ago, I took a look around me a realized that the hairspray fumes that wafted through the halls of my high school were soon going to render me vapid. So I took a bit of a chance and applied to Simon's Rock, a very punky liberal arts college in Mass. created for 16-17 year olds, the end result being that I came here (from my hometown in Wyoming) on a full scholarship.
Having successfully escaped from my Republican father, his politics, and any dependence on his money, I've decided that I want to go to law school; the reason being the existence of such pricks as my father, Dubya or Justice Scalia. I want a chance to join the fray and do some verbal/intellectual ball-kicking. I want to make my mother and my little sisters proud of me.
Though I would love to find a guy that could carry on his end of a conversation and a relationship, those are few and far between, even at my beloved, supposedly enlightened school. And I think I challenge them in their own court a little too often -- I'm a drummer, was a math major before switching to law... guys still want us to be either in the kitchen, or at the very least, majoring in English, much as they hate to admit it.
I guess I'm a Heartless Bitch because it's still a man's world (I'll be thrilled if that cliche can ever be put out of use). What Katherine MacKinnon and other feminists started in my mom's generation has got to be finished off by mine or my children, and it's not a job for the easily wounded.
