E.E. Cumming's character Olaf, in the poem "I sing of Olaf," bravely stands up to all adversaries, and as a conscientious objector refuses to go to war. Even after he is tortured and death is imminent, Olaf stands fast by saying "There is some Shit I will not eat."
Although Olaf is a man, his convictions and guts exemplify bitchery at its best.
For me, being a bitch is about strength, smarts, and integrity. It means cutting through the bullshit and saying exactly what is on one's mind with no fear.
I have been regarded a Heartless Bitch by both, women and men, for being true to myself and to my convictions. I believe that we live in a culture that is rampantly and diabolically misogynistic. Diabolically because society's fear and hatred of powerful women comes cloaked in disguise, flimsily yes, but effective enough to have duped the masses. We are not required to wear veils, however, the mists are upon us.
Because of this, it makes me crazy to see women, particularly young women who have not had to fight for the rights we currently have, pissing them away through ignorance, stupidity, or laziness. Take off the pink glasses girls, and have a look at what's really going on!
I speak my own truth regardless of what others think. Though I have chosen a partnership through marriage, I remain entirely self-sufficient financially, emotionally, and spiritually. I am a strong woman, mother, partner, and friend with attitude, confidence, and passion.
I could go on, but I believe that Margaret Thatcher said it best: "Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren't.
Same goes for Bitches.
Yes! I want to read more from Real Life Heartless Bitches
