The case for the defense:
I have not, nor ever will, define myself in relation to a man, or to
anyone, for that matter. Humans are distinguished from Nature partially
in that we don't need to parasitize one another to survive, whether at
the biological, emotional, social, or intellectual levels. All
exploitation that does occur is allowed to occur; the exploited
deserve no pity, and the exploiters deserve no respect. There's no
reason to define one's identity in terms of people one has "conquered,"
and doing so detracts from the value placed upon a relationship of
mutual respect, affection and love.
Neither will I allow anyone else to decide my values for me. This
began when I was thirteen, when I chose not to be confirmed within my
parents' religion. I am happy to engage in brutal debates with those who
would like to press their beliefs on me; I more often than not enjoy
these discussions more than they do.
I consider the less kooky forms of feminism no more than common
sense; I am not easily fit into stereotypes; I refuse to be identified
by my age; I have no sympathy for whiners, and no use for non-people; I
despise saccharinity; I will not use HTML editors.
For all these reasons, I believe the title Heartless Bitch can be
accurately applied to me. I leave you with two Heartlessly Bitchy
Dorothy Parker quotes to go with the one I have chosen as my One-Liner.
"The ladies men admire, I've heard,
Would shudder at a wicked word.
Their candle gives a single light;
They'd rather stay at home at night.
They do not keep awake till three,
Nor read erotic poetry.
They never sanction the impure,
Nor recognize an overture.
They shrink from powders and from paints...
So far, I've had no complaints."
-Dorothy Parker
"Here in my heart, I am Helen;
  I'm Aspasia and Hero, at least.
I'm Judith, and Jael, and Madame de Stael;
  I'm Salome, moon of the East.
Here in my soul I am Sappho;
  Lady Hamilton am I, as well.
In me R'ecamier vies with Kitty O'Shea,
  With Dido, and Eve, and poor Nell.
I'm all of the glamorous ladies
  At whose beckoning history shook.
But you are a man, and see only my pan,
  So I stay at home with a book."
-Dorothy Parker
Thank you, I did it myself.
Yes! I want to read more from Real Life Heartless Bitches
