Gail
I am a Heartless Bitch. I am 44 with a beautiful daughter age 16. I
yanked her and myself out of a abusive marriage 8 years ago. I entered
myself into a millwright apprenticeship program (was 1 of 6 women in my
entire state), successfully completed the program and went on to obtain
a maintenance millwright position at Ford Motor Co in the skilled trades
dept. I am the ONLY female millwright in the 30 year history of my
plant. This has been traditionally "man's work" because it involves
skills like welding, using a cutting torch, repairing greasy gearboxes
and motors, etc.
I will help ANY woman who wishes to be where I am
however I loathe women who try this trade (or similar jobs) but aren't
willing to take it seriously. By that I mean they screw or blow their
way to the best jobs, can't dress appropriately for the work involved
(yes, I've seen it all) or expect the men to carry them when the going
gets a little rough (they might break a nail!).
I loathe the men who
feel I am taking a "man's job" away from someone who needs to support a
family -- like I'm not supporting a family here. I embrace my sisters who
seek to better themselves with their own hard work and determination and
I highly respect my brothers who recognize these women and aren't afraid
of them. A man of quality is not intimidated by a woman seeking
equality.
