I believe in living my own life the way I see fit, not the way others think I ought to. Because of this, I don't wear make-up; this is not a political statement, I just don't like the stuff and don't want to be bothered with the time and money it costs. If other women enjoy putting on make-up, that's fine, but it's not for me. My mother occasionally pesters me about this ("you're a young woman, other women your age wear make-up"). She stopped when I asked her if I should jump of the Brooklyn Bridge if the other women my age did it too.

A few years ago, my sister was engaged to a man who seemed to think that a woman's place was in the kitchen (she thankfully came to her senses before she actually married the pig). I mentioned to him that I don't enjoy cooking, and I rarely cook anything unless absolutely necessary. He told me that, with that attitude, I'd "never find a man". I told him that I'd much rather live my life single than settle for a life tied to someone like him.
