I have spent almost 20 years in the old boy network of the US Navy. To top it all off, my field is still almost exclusively male dominated at the top. When people meet me, the first words I hear are "You're too young...pretty...tiny...delicate...feminine...on ad nauseum to do that job. I usually spend my first 6 months at any new assignment proving that I know my job, and am physically capable of handling it. As a senior Petty Officer I have been used by various commands to assist in the investigation of claims of harassment. My fair and even handed treatment has one me both the respect and hatred of the males and females, officers and enlisted personnel. I have never let anything stand in my way. Not gender, size, or the frequent idiots who try to stop me. I'm raising two teenage boys without their father, who I'm separated from. They seem to prefer my company to his. Their friends all look to me for advice, help, Tea and sympathy and the occasional kick in the ass.
