Michelle
Living in the country, I have been live trapping and rescuing dogs for the past 14 years. November 2008, I made it official - filed for non-profit status, designed my website, and began working with a 10 county coordinator in my state. Although many organizations and other facilities are anxious to help me, my own county and neighbors have been trying endlessly to shut me down since then. Determined, I pressed on. Animal Control is sent out to inspect - Couldn't find a problem. Health Director refuses to allow me to take the class to become a CRV (Certified Rabies Vaccinator) - THIS IS Quite the POLITICAL county when it infringes on VETERINARIAN territory. County Shelter gets wind of me and calls the NC State Agriculture Dept, who in turn, comes out to turn my place upside down. (Turns out I microchip my animals and provide health insurance for adoptive pets and the County Shelter doesn't - guess they were jealous.)
Don't even get me started with the lame neighbor and his wife. They have lived here 4 years. I have lived here 14 - they knew what I did before moving here, if I was such a Heartless Bitch, why did they even move here? They claim I stole their dog. (Yes, the fuzzy little fluff ball that would snake her way into my yard and get knocked up by one of my personal dogs). It got hit by a car. It laid in the ditch for a week. Every time they can get into my yard to "capture" one of my emaciated dogs, they haul it to their place and call the law. Yes, the whole nine yards, cussing, screaming, I'm the "Heartless Bitch" who steals these dogs and lets them starve to death, wha, wha, wha...
I don't refund a deposit because someone changed their mind. I do go pick up a dog that has not been spayed/neutered within 30 days of purchase, and I do press charges if ANY of my dogs are mistreated.
