I'm responsible for my own life and happiness - as is everyone else.
It's a simple philosophy, but not only is it more empowering than say, dancing
on top of a sticky bar in a dirty dancing competition (cough), but, simply put,
it means that I'm in charge of my life, your shit is your own, it cannot be
dumped on me. I'm not mistreated by partners, friends, or family because I
simply don't allow it.
I believe that any "women's" magazine that spouts rhetoric about
self-esteem and confidence in an article adjacent to an airbrushed, computer
enhanced model selling cream to eliminate cellulite is not fit to line a rat
cage.
I'll admit to pitying the stupid, after all, I'm not sure they can help it.
Stupidity lasts forever, as Aristophanes said. It's the ignorant that I loathe -
those whose stupidity arises from indolence, or because they've never quite had
the strength to pull their head out of the sand (or their arse).
A client once asked me a question about my "other half". I swallowed the
vomit and replied, "Actually, we're both separate, whole people". I loathe the
idea that I - or any individual - would be incomplete without another. I
managed to suppress the vomit because she said "other half"; I'm not sure I'd
have managed if she'd used that horrible phrase: "better half".
I live my life with informed idealism - I want this world to be better,
which requires education, idealism, the confidence to challenge people and the
status quo, and above all, it requires endless action and embracing the
assertive, undaunted Bitch within.
Informed opinions and ideas are my weapons for change; may they smite the
ignorant and terrify the apathetic.
