I refuse to spend another moment tolerating the shit of the media perpetuates of women serving as nothing more than one-dimensional dolls with the sole purpose of stimulating men's visual interest. Tacky little magazines, films, music clips, advertising.
I'm sick of seeing robbery of the potential for women to express their intelligence, depth and intricacy as individuals. Take men's magazines as an example of thieves. Do interviewers (who, incidentally, I tend to visualise with acne, braces, and a continually breaking voice) ever consider asking models their aspirations, hopes, fears? I guess the general readership of these publications can't be expected to be interested in little more than the answer to typical questions such as "So... do you shave it all off in the shower?".
For fucks sake.
Do we live in an egalitarian society in the contemporary world? True, we have come a long way in terms of gender equality, but look at the remnants of the 19th century still visible. Fuck the men who still look at a beautiful woman and see her as an object to win, possess and display, like a dining table's centerpiece. Fuck the grotesque men who look at their dicks and see a machete, brandishing a smug authority emotionally, mentally, and physically. It all just reeks of insecurity. How does a man like this gain a sense of empowerment and self-worth? Through their assumed power over what they've perceived to be the weaker sex, the one that follows on from the almighty male. Good for nothing but living sex toys and trophies. What does it matter anyway? The woman is a walking combobulation of giggle and collagen, lacking the dimensions to desire to be anything more.
When we've rewritten social constructs, when women can be made of more than silicone and fake tan, when the ineffable complexities of every individual is realized and celebrated, that's when I'll be truly proud of the gender equality the society has created.
But just for now, I've made up my mind, not my face.
