Alan
I do what I do in life because my intellect, reasoning, experience, and gut tell me it's the best way to go. I'm not interested in the opinion(s) of the majority. I don't feel uncomfortable if I'm the only one in the room with an opposite or unorthodox viewpoint, nor do I take comfort in the fact that someone -- or a majority -- might happen to agree with me. I do what I do (or say what I say) because I know it to be the right course of action and/or the correct line of thinking. Conversely, my mind is open enough that I'm also not at all afraid to discard thoughts, ideas, or theories -- even ones I've held for years as true -- if I am presented with alternative and convincing evidence/proof to the contrary.
These principles have allowed me to live my life largely free of the bullshit, drama, and calamity it seems most other human beings -- largely of their own making, at least from my experience -- suffer in their lives. I walk my talk, my word is as good as gold, and I take full responsibility for my actions. As a result, I live well and I sleep well at night.
Having said all this, however, I always try and remember that it's OKAY to have emotions...I just don't let them influence my decisions or govern my life.
But hey... that's just me, what the fuck do I know?
