What makes me a Heartless Bitch?
My hard won independence.
I was once a 'nice girl' who never dared to voice an opinion or contradict
a man and I honestly expected Prince Charming to show up, sweep me off my feet,
support me, plan the rest of my life and solve all of my emotional
problems. I was the female equivalent of the 'nice guy' who lets women
walk all over him and then complains that they use him to wipe their feet.
In short, I was an idiot.
However, I didn't stay an idiot. Sadly it took me a while before I
woke up to the fact that no one is responsible for my health wealth and
happiness but me, but eventually I pulled my head out of my ass and started
taking responsibility for my life.
I did a lot of hard thinking, came to the realization that 1) if I wanted
something, I'd have to work my butt off and get it for myself; 2) I bore some of
the responsibility for failed relationships by not standing up for myself; 3) I
didn't need someone else to make me complete and I could build a pretty good
life on my own.
In the years since, I've gotten a better job, built up my savings, paid off
my car and credit card, and bought a house - all on my own without help from
any man. I've also discovered that I love being alone and that I don't
need a husband, live-in boyfriend or kids to 'complete' me.
I have equal disdain for Momma's Boys, Daddy's Little Princesses,
shopaholics, drama queens, men who refuse to expend the slightest amount of time
and effort to make themselves attractive then whine that they can't get a date;
women who refuse to learn how to take care of themselves then whine that their
lives are a mess and nitwits of both sexes who refuse to learn from
experience.
I believe that all adults regardless of gender should know how to change a
flat tire, prepare a decent meal, balance a checkbook, live on a budget, act
like adults, and generally be a productive member of society.
I believe in maturity, responsibility and self-reliance. I have no
use for self pity, martyrs, users, moochers and anyone who says "I'm just a big
kid at heart". If this makes me a Heartless Bitch, so be
it.
