Eileen
I will not
act like I can not do something or do not enjoy something simply because it fits
into the stereotypes of what people expect others, and women in particular, to
conform to. I like math and happen to be pretty good at it even though I have
breasts. This seems to amaze some people, which annoys me more in many
regards. My friends let me figure out our restaurant checks for a reason.
All I can ever think is "Do not try to limit me because you have limited
yourself." I can do whatever I put my mind to and do it well. This should
not shock you and if it does I suggest you find someone else to belittle with
your assumptions about sexual roles. I also like to cook, not because I am
female, but just because I like it and always have. This should not shock
you either. I do not choose what I do based on either denying sex roles or
complying with them. This is a two way street and the bottom line is I choose to
do what I enjoy regardless of what others might think.
What I am as
a person, what we all are really regardless of our sex, should not be mandated
by how others will react to it. To conform to please others, to fit in, is like
giving up a little part of yourself. It will not make me happier to
fulfill your needs or expectations over mine, so why should I do it? And to
expect it of me because I am female is, as far as I am concerned, the worst
thing of all. If that is what you want, I suggest you look to someone else
because in the long run it will not be me who is disappointed in what happens
but you.
Mainly for me I
think being a Heartless Bitch is about standing up and saying "No, I will
not." Many people think that by saying that they will/have let others down. By
not saying it more often, I think they let themselves down, which is far
worse. So, for me, No, I will not listen to you whine about something you
have control over but refuse to deal with. No, I will not pretend to be bad at
something to make you feel better. And last but surely not least, No, I
will not be something other than I am so that your world is a more comfortable
place.
