Being a woman isn't about forcing your opinion in everybody's face,
and it isn't about being a shrinking violet and keeping your trap shut when you
have an opinion. It isn't about being different to men, or about being exactly
the same.
Being a woman doesn't automatically give you membership to an exclusive
club comprising of all the females on the planet, just because you incidentally
share common genitalia. It doesn't give you the right to pigeon-hole men, or
women, or homosexuals, or people of a certain race, or age, or even height or
hair colour, or any other arbitrary characteristic. It isn't about being a
housewife, or having a career.
Being a woman doesn't mean your life-long dream is to have children and a
husband, and it isn't about rejecting these things out of hand just because it
is what some people appear to demand of women. It isn't about blaming all men on
the planet for inequality, nor is it about blaming women for this.
Being a woman should not blind you to the inequality men experience too,
nor should it make you blind to any other collection of individuals who are in
some way bundled together and stereotyped.
Being a woman is being a human being- one of over 6,000,000,000 others on
this planet. We are the same species, and that alone is what we have in common.
Some people are shy, some outspoken, some people have lots of money, some have
none, some people like to play golf every Sunday, some people like to wear
make-up and high heels, some of us don't vote, some of us watch porn, and some
people fight wars for a living.
What is really important above all of these things is using this brain
inside our heads that makes us what we are. I have been visiting this site now
for over two years, and it seems to me that being a member requires just that.
It would be a pleasure to meet you all.
