As a cultural journalist, I often encounter people who believe art is about being obscure, moody, incomprehensible and rude. I refuse to indulge the overgrown egos of infantile rejects who think that being misunderstood is the same as being great.

I believe pity and shame to be useless to individuals as well as communities.

I believe that money and power did not fight with femininity and grace.

I believe I do not have to choose between success and peaceful sleep.

I believe that too often, kindness is confused with weakness, compassion for condescendence and humility for insecurity.

I believe that thinking my body is no more than my womb is the same as thinking the ocean is no more that a wave.

And I believe that beauty and brains are partners, not enemies. This is my Bitch's Credo.
