It's taken me a few decades, but I've finally become a Heartless Bitch. I went through the must-be-cool, must-appear-normal-or-else stage, and the must-be-counter-culture, must-fight-the-power-or-else stage, and now I'm free to enjoy the live-by-my-own-tastes-and-values-no-matter-what-others-think stage. I tried using my body to win the affections of men, and learned the hard way that sex is neither proof of, nor a promise to, love. I tried demanding people treat me the way I wanted to be treated, before realizing the only person's behavior I could control was my own, and that if I didn't like the way someone was acting, it was my responsibility to remove myself from that person's company. I tried blaming others, blaming fate, and blaming my own insurmountable limitations for my failures and unhappiness, before realizing only I was responsible for my life.
Having once been that stupid myself, I have a limited quantity of sympathy for people who haven't gotten it yet. Ignorance can be cured. My patience runs out when people who have had it explained to them refuse to see the obvious, and willfully remain in the victim mindset.
I'd very much like to see the day when we can round up and quarantine such stubbornly idiotic folk, but until then, I'd be honored to gain access to the private enclave of Heartless Bitches.
