The urge to smack my co-worker when she says "I have two strikes against me, I'm young and I'm a woman", is becoming ever more difficult to resist.

I live my life according to what I want and how I see fit, not what a given observer thinks is valuable or right. I make no apologies for that. I do not demand or expect anyone to like me; I do expect them to accept that this is me. Or at the least, if they want to criticise me, to do so to my face, hopefully from some basis of rationality, and accept that agreement is not always possible.

I devote very little time to worrying about what others think of me - I'd rather spend that energy living my life and having a bloody good time doing it. I do care about others' feelings - I won't deliberately hurt someone if I can avoid it - but I won't tiptoe through the world for fear of giving offence.
