Marie
I stumbled upon your site a while ago and I thought it provided a
much welcome relief from the traditional "female-oriented" press/lit/whatever,
which rams the worst gender stereotypes down their readers' throats. According
to "women's" magazines, we are all vapid airheads, obsessed with "fashion"
trends, the size of their arses and the ticking of their biological
clocks.
Strangely enough, I've personally met more narrow-minded women than men as
far as gender stereotypes are concerned (even though stupidity IS genderless).
Whenever I say I don't want children or I'm not cooing over every baby in sight,
the dirty looks I get are unmistakably female.
I've had a great relationship with my boyfriend for the past 10 years. We
are both very independent-minded and are working on several projects (some
common, some individual). What really makes me hit the roof is people who come
up to me and say "You're lucky your boyfriend LETS YOU go to concerts/go out
with friends/travel abroad/whatever without him." Helloooo? We're both
grown-ups, he's not my father/tutor/guardian. The day I need anyone's permission
to do anything, you might want to check my pulse!
I could go on like this for pages on end, but this is a membership
application, not a rant...
Just another thing I cannot stand is self-proclaimed "feminist fighters"
who are nothing but universal pains in the arse and cannot bear contradiction.
I've met one of those recently, who claimed that every woman who's married or
has a boyfriend is a doormat. Gender equality and mutual respect,
anyone?
