There's a world of difference between being a Heartless Bitch and being an asshole. Reading through some of the "weak of the week" and your lovely and highly amusing hate mail, it's evident that not everyone is able to make this distinction. "Fuck everyone else, its all about me" doesn't encompass the feeling I get when reading the articles on this site. The message I'm getting is something akin to: "Stop trying to blame everyone else for your issues. Own up to them. Deal with them. Grow as an individual." Which I personally find to be an empowering point of view. How anyone can confuse this with a purely selfish personality or with the clichéd man-hating is beyond me.
Your articles and subject matter resonate with me. I find that after visiting I get psyched up and motivated. The women (and men) who contribute to HBI are of a type I've not had the opportunity to socialize with previously. They're people who's conversation isn't limited to: "How many children do YOU have? None....Oh, well are you married? Don't worry, dear. One day it will happen for you." (Usually accompanied by a condescending tone and a pat on the arm.) As though that's the height of every woman's ambitions in life.
Reading the thoughts of people who understand and agree that a woman does not have to define herself through her marital status (ie "What does your HUSBAND do for a living?") and her children is such a breath of fresh air! So, whether or not you accept my application for membership, thank you for the refreshing perspective.
