. . . I don't play office politics. I just want to do my job, and do it well. If that makes you look bad, I don't care. I don't care if you feel threatened by my intelligence. Your insecurity is not my problem, and I won't walk on eggshells around you. I won't pick up your slack, I won't turn a blind eye to your shit, and if your poor performance affects me adversely, I will let you know about it. This does not mean I am overstepping my authority - it means I am trying to deal with you as though we are both reasonable, mature adults.

Unfortunately, the assumption that most people are reasonable and mature gives them WAY too much credit.
