....being a doormat didn't work out. Being "nice" earned me the company of loser users and manipulative personalities bent on chipping away my self-esteem and self-confidence. I woke up one day and decided the price was too high.

Since becoming a Heartless Bitch, I find myself seeing people more for what they are instead of what I'd like them to be. The rose-colored glasses are gone. They were only really good for hiding my tears anyway.

When I was a doormat, I was afraid. There were people who used that fear to their advantage and to my shame (got fondled in public places....too afraid to speak up). Now as a Heartless Bitch, I don't attract the human sharks anymore because they *know* that not only will I stand up and yell my damn head off, I might remove chunks of their worthless hide too. So as a Heartless Bitch, I'm actually safer and more secure in public because my faith is in myself. No one else needs to protect me, and I'm not holding my breath expecting anyone to.

I don't blame myself for other people's assholery anymore. So long as I haven't been an outright jerk, then I'm entitled to basic respect. If I don't get that from someone, I no longer waste my valuable brainspace wondering what I did to deserve bad treatment. I now accept that people can be total jerks without cause on my part. That lifts some serious guilt from my life.

I'm much happier.
