Carmen
My mom is a strong, intellectual woman that is a complete feminist. She had my utmost respect because she raised my sister and me alone without a man around and she never said she couldn't do something without one. A few weeks ago, however, she said something I'll never forget, "I need a man to fix a car; I can't do it." I wanted to pull my car over and rip her voice box out. Then, I brought to her attention that she jacked our house up, she put concrete down, she fixed light bulbs, she hacked down trees. In other words, she was the man of the house (for lack of better words). She claimed that girls cannot fix cars or work with electricity. Needless to say, I was foaming at the mouth and seething with bitter resentment for her ignorance so I decided that day to learn what the heck a carburetor is and how to change my own Goddamn oil.
Because I have ovaries and a uterus does NOT, under any circumstances, mean that I will be carrying a festering little fetus inside of me. Call me selfish but I find it absolutely dense to bring a child into this world. If women are still making seventy-five cents for every dollar a man makes, my uterus will not be fertilized by some dollar making sperm. I do not feel that I have to prove my womanhood by carrying a child inside of me for nine months.
As an aside, I have no tolerance for misspellings, "LOL," or any other grammar associated mistakes. An accident is one thing but a habit is another story.
I am cynical. If anything, if you've lived on this earth, you'd be crazy not to be cynical. Being independent with your head on your shoulders should be the ideal girl but our society's screwed that up. It's not just men that have screwed it up, it's also the girl down the street that got knocked up, married, and is now a housewife with a family of four. I'm not sorry I don't fit the mold of the perfect girl with diseases, a cheating boyfriend, and no education. I'm not ashamed of the female I have become.
