I'm independent. Take it or leave it - I'm happy to have you come along for the ride but I'm not a follower, or a leader. I make my own happiness and I expect others to do the same - I will not be a crutch, band-aide, plaster cast, or your personal non-prescription bottle of Valium.
I can laugh at myself - why yes, I *am* eccentric, vain, opinionated, and (sometimes) foul-mouthed! Thank you for pointing that out! I know my faults and I deal with them. I expect others to do the same.
I've managed to figure out how to use the space between my ears for something other than make-up, boys, cool clothes, television, and Top 40 music. I *like* all those things (except for the Top 40 music) but I also know how unimportant they are compared to honesty, friendship, world hunger, and intelligence. Don't waste your time trying to convince me otherwise, because I'm not going to be polite when I tell you to stick your head in the garborator.
Last but not least... I write genre fiction. I don't care if you think I'm a nerdy hack because of it - I have something to say, and this is the best way I can say it. I'm not going to write saccharine heaving-bosom romances or whinging whining angsty semi-autobiographical Literature just so that some pretentious prig whose definition of 'readable' doesn't stray past Oprah's Book Club and the Bestseller's List can pat me on the head and tell me what a good little girl I am. Thanks for suggesting it, but I'd rather be able to read my work ten years from now and look myself in the eye afterwards.
