Being a strong-minded, independent woman who's not afraid to express
her honest opinion gets you the Bitch label pretty quickly (which I honestly
love). It's when you *gasp* dare try to expand yourself into what is considered
"male territory" that you get cunt, dyke, whore (as in that whore has to be
blowing/doing the boss). Go one step further and stand up for your beliefs,
protect what's yours and fight for it. Even if it means making a jackass out of
someone (if they deserve it).
I know a few women who have married or re-married who have said to me "I
wish I could be as strong as you" (meaning not needing a mate to support me or
to lean on). What these women don't get, is that they CAN be this strong. It
doesn't happen overnight; it's a long, often tiring road but you keep putting
one foot in front of the other, day after day, because you know that as you
travel that road, you are keeping your self worth and end up being a better
person for it, as well as being able to sleep with a clear conscience at
night.
And - whenever I do receive that compliment - I point out I had the best
example. My Mom. In a time when if parents divorced, Mothers quite often lost
their homes, moved because of the 'stigma' of being a divorcee', etc. Mom kept
the house, sometimes working 2-3 jobs, us kids did chores, our homework, and on
occasion did our back-to-school shopping at Thrift stores. I am a firm believer
of "what doesn't kill you can only make you stronger" as all 3 of us are
free-thinking, independent adults.
I'm proud to be raising a Heartless Bitch myself - or so it would seem.
Though a typical teenage boy (who's usually just hovering right above a good
old fashioned ass-whooping administered by me) my son stands up for what he
believes in and will vocalize it in a heart-beat, knows that what you look
like on the outside is no indication of how you are on the inside, is not limited to guy/girl chores around the house and no one, not even me can sway him from what he believes is right.
