Because I know what I want. I could spend the rest of my life
drowning in the disappointment of others' choices in life. I can't be
concerned with that. I need the outcome that I want. Sometimes this
means being manipulative. I can recognize this, but I also acknowledge it
is a necessity in today's world. Whether you are in a high-powered
corporate environment, or run a small business out of your home; to get what you
want, you need to focus on the outcome- not the factors in between.
To my benefit, this is not most women's strengths. This is where I
have been able to succeed in a corporate, predominantly male "good ole' boys"
environment. I am extremely fact driven and therefore not afraid to
communicate my thoughts. To my surprise, there are many men stuck in
middle-management that haven't quite figured this out.
In a recent promotion, I inherited a team of seven women. And I now
report to a woman. I've never been more road-blocked, stereotyped, or
thrown under the bus more than I am now. The word "BITCH" has come up a
few times. But, I am more successful than those women who have been in my
position for 20 years. I guess the "Heartless" part comes in here-- where
I don't give a damn if you can't distinguish honesty from being a Bitch; or
earned success from "paying your time."
My time is obviously more valuable than others. I don't have time to
pretend to work, or to worry about kissing ass to the wrong man. I do my
job well, I love my husband, and I admire my friends. I have no sympathy
for others that live by a different creed.
