Melissa
I possess both a mind and a heart, and I know which does the
thinking, and which does the feeling. I have only a few friends, but I
hold them dear to me. They know they can turn to me for honest
opinions. I try to be a velvet hammer, but a hammer none-the-less.
I have a college degree, and know several five-dollar words, but don't use
them to make others feel inferior. Words mean things, and hiding behind
big words is just a way of telling someone you have no facts to back up your
argument.
I know the difference between courtesy and chauvinism; between honesty and
cruelty; between nice and weak.
I do not dress provocatively unless I want to attract attention to my
body. When I do, I am not surprised when people stare at my body. I
take responsibility for my actions, and the world would be a much better place
if more people did.
One story, and I'll make it short. When chatting about an upcoming
election in the teachers' lounge one of my colleagues commented, "I couldn't
vote for *candidate's name*, he's not for women's rights!" I looked her dead in
the face and said, "What rights don't you have? You are treated equally under
the law, you can vote, you can own property . . ." She was speechless. All
she knew was the propaganda that this candidate was "against women's
rights". That is the kind of person I can't stand. The
sheep.
