I believe I have the right to find it offensive when I'm expected to apologize for the fact that I don't want to flirt with the greasy guy at the bus stop because a)he is greasy, and any guy that would just come up to me asking for a date without getting to know me will not be my type; and b)because I'm enjoying the music on my headphones and don't want to talk to anyone, especially the greasy guy. I will not apologize, i.e. "Oh, I'm sorry. I'm not looking...", or even worse, make up a lie about having a boyfriend...as if a girl can't be single without constantly being on the lookout for a new boyfriend.
I'm a girl who won't apologize for choosing reading whatever interests me, enjoying music, enjoying art over sex. At any time of the day or night, not just first thing in the morning.
I have no pity for the girls that let these guys walk all over them...it's these same spineless guys that try and walk all over a woman just because she doesn't want to date him! Why should a girl apologize to those jerks?
I realise that everything I'm writing pertains to relationships, and not the rest of life. But I think one of the biggest ways women keep themselves down is by buying into the belief that everything they do should revolve around their relationship (or lack thereof) with a man. Just look at all the women's magazines.
