Because after thirty years of putting up with the consequences of other peoples' mistakes - I can deal with my own just handily, thanks, I put a lot of time and effort into learning to be this resourceful - I discovered that the world didn't end if I started to tell people I didn't like to just sod off and take their problems somewhere else. I now have far fewer friends, but they're worth having. And there's a whole lot of people who now think I'm a bastard. Their opinions can and should be discounted; I've quite being a good example and I'm sticking with people who've already figured it out.
