I'm a Heartless Bitch because I do what
I want because I want to, and not
because other people tell me that it's
right or wrong. I'm so sick of people
who are out to get the world's approval
and will do anything to get it. I know
way too many bimbos who are actually
really smart people. So many of the
people I know are untrue to themselves
and their own beliefs simply because
someone told them they were wrong. No
one bothers to question society's
values these days. We're brought up
thinking that we have this amazing
opportunity to be anything we want to
be, yet they insist on instilling in us
a need for the "American Dream"--a
spouse, 3 kids, a dog, a big house, and
a steady job as something professional
that your mommy would be proud to brag
about to her friends during the weekly
bridge game. We are continually taught
that we have so many choices in life,
yet they are really already made for
us. As a young child, all our desires
to explore our personalities are
squandered. We are not asked, "Would
you like to finish high school? Would
you like to go to college?" We're
asked, "Where do you want to go to
college?" and they can't even leave it
as simple as that, it's "Where would
you like to go to college, Harvard or
Yale? And will you be going to law
school or medical school?" We are also
taught at a very young age that we are
not complete as people without a
partner. Even at the age of two, upon
seeing us with a playmate, Grandma
asks, "Aw, is that your boyfriend?"
Which brings up another point. Even
from that tender young age where every
little piece of our life influences how
we'll see the world for years to come,
we are taught of the heterosexuality
norm. Grandma would never ask her
darling little granddaughter if that
was her girlfriend. Society tries to
tell us we have freedom to be anything
we want, to say anything we want, to do
anything we want, and although this is
true, they fail to mention one tiny
detail--"If you choose anything that is
not the social norm, you will be
condemned and discriminated against, so
you'd better conform, and quick!
Especially if you want a career with
prestige, like a politician (puke!) or
a public figure of any sort." Well,
our society may be sending those
messages to the youth of today, but I
refuse to let myself be placed in a
mold and made into someone I'm not,
just like all the mindless twits I
encounter on a daily basis, just so
that I can "fit in" and be "popular."
I will continue to be who I am, and if
they don't like it, that's their
problem! That's why I'm a Heartless
Bitch.
