    “do tell?” an old friend of mine got her commission as an air force officer on the strength of her degree in physics, and as i remember that’s a fairly “math heavy” field.

    I see no differences between men and women in the field of education. But I would add that now young women are beginning to outnumber men in higher education. It is how hard one is willing to work.

    Similarly on my course it’s assumed the japanese student is going to be terrific at math by virtue of being from Osaka…?

    We still encounter this sort of stereotype, both positive and negative, though it seems a lot of the negative might be silenced by hard work and commitment, the same for any individual.

    As for positive stereotypes…well, that’s why the student union has a bar.
